Ways to keep your Kids Busy When you are At Home

Parents come across many situations when they need to stuck at home. The reason can be any and it is true that a day inside home from the normal routine can hectic especially when kids are too at home. It is almost difficult to work from home while taking care of the family along. However, nothing to worry, there are many ways to keep your kids busy when you are at home. There are wide number of ideas to occupy your child of all ages.

Collaborate with your child: If you have a toddler at home then it is understandable that you need to cook something fort him/her. In such a situation when you are busy in kitchen, invite your child to collaborate with you in preparing the meals. Give them plastic or silicone bowls and take their help in washing fruits and vegetables. They can also scoop or stir ingredients, mash soft bananas, mix dry & wet ingredients.

Bubbles Activity: Every child likes to break the bubbles. Close your eyes and think for a while about favorite childhood activity. It must be definitely bubble breaking activity. Go to the backyard or to the balcony and enjoy bubble fun with your kids. You can prepare own bubbles using the following items:

  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cup dish soap

Preparation:  First stir the corn syrup into the water, then mix in the dish soap. Use straw, bubble wands, or something available at home and enjoy your self-created bubble machine.

Paint: Young children lots to do arts and crafts. They love to experiment with water colors, brushes etc. If you are busy in doing work from home then extend this activity. Given them cotton swabs, leaves, vegetables (lady finger, potato etc) or they can even use their fingers to create a magic in art file.

Create an obstacle course: Kids love climbing, jumping, rolling, and crawling. Keeping this mind, engage them in a physical activity by creating an obstacle course in home.

Preparation: Use pillows, cardboard box, rolled towels, cushions, jumping ropes, tape etc to create your own little obstacle course. Your little one will love to go under, over, through and around this obstacle course.

Take their help with chores: Amongst several ways to keep your kids busy when you are at home, taking the help of grown-ups in household chores is also a good idea. You can ask your child to wash the vegetables, place books systematically in shelves, prepare a cup of tea/fruit salad, make their bed, pair the socks, etc.

Go on a nature walk: Take a break from your work and go for a nature walk with your children. There is hardly any need to go to the park far away. Choose your terrace or stand in balcony, or take a walk around your house and chat with your children. They should also not feel isolated when you are busy in doing work from home. During the nature walk, ask your child to count the number of trees, plants, or anything around you.

Make a Routine: Now, you and your kids are at home, it is important for you to make a routine so that you both feel as normal as possible. Your routine should include indoor time, outdoor time, time of lunch, dinner and breakfast, family time. If your stay or your child’s stay at home even stretches for a long duration of time, you will be able to manage in a stress-free way.
