How to Help Teens Manage their Stress: Anxiety means getting worried and apprehensive that something bad is about to happen and you cannot overcome the situation. It can be tension, nausea, sweat, etc. Sometimes, the behavior could be avoiding the situation causing anxiety or wanting reassurance. Anxiety can take place in a specific situation and even after the situation passes away. It can also happen even when there are no specific events etc. Anyone can come across stress including teenagers. In some of cases, stress can push the child to practice their favorite activities when nobody is around. However, chronic stress may lead to mental and physical problems. In the situation when the stress is prolonged, it may lead to high blood pressure which affects the immune system and leads to diseases such as obesity and heart disease.

How do Teenagers get Stressed?

Teens can get stressed by situations in the home and outside. Check the signs of stress in your teens:

  • Check if your teenage son/daughter gets angry. Teenagers always not use words to describe their feelings when they are in tension.
  • Stressed-out teens are short-tempered.
  • They might feel lethargic all the time.
  • Sleep more than usual
  • Eating too little or eating too much
  • Complain about stomach and headache

Parents can help their teenagers a lot and they have a significant role to play in removing the stress of their teenage:

  • Talk with Your Child: Speaking with your child is the best therapy to know what is troubling them. Be the problem solver for your child and try to fix their problems.
  • Allow Them to Spend Time with their Peers: Peers can be the best stress-relievers. Social relationships are important in teenagers and parents encourage their children to meet with their friends.
  • Take Complete Sleep: Experts recommend that every teenager should take a night of sleep for 10 hours every day.
  • Limit the Screen Time: Tell your child not to use digital devices too much.
  • Physical Exercise: Exercise is a stress reliever for everyone including teenagers. At least half an hour walk is essential for relieving the stress.
  • Take out time for fun: Teens need to take out time to do things they want to do. They can play music or indulge in art to lead a stressful life.
  • Spend Time in Greenery: You can bring plants for your teenager as spending time in green space helps in overcoming stress and anxiety.
